Ethereum accounts expose public keys with every transaction, making them vulnerable to quantum key derivation attacks. While Ethereum has discussed quantum resistance, no timeline exists. SynX shipped native NIST FIPS 203 and FIPS 205 cryptography from genesis block 1 â testnet January 2026, mainnet April 2026—the same algorithms protecting US government communications.
Ethereum relies on ECDSA for transaction signing. While secure against classical computers, this encryption is mathematically vulnerable to quantum attacks:

Ethereum accounts are reused by design. An address is the last 20 bytes of the Keccak-256 hash of the public key, but the key is recoverable from the signature of any transaction the account has sent. An account is therefore exposed from its first outgoing transaction and stays exposed for life, because every later transaction comes from the same key.
Smart-contract wallets can rotate signing keys, but they still validate ECDSA signatures unless a post-quantum verifier is deployed. Ethereum researchers have published post-quantum roadmap discussions; nothing post-quantum protects ordinary accounts on mainnet today.
