Quantum Cryptocurrency Terminology: Names and Sources
An algorithm name should tell you what operation a product performs. Use this compact source lookup when a quantum cryptocurrency claim mixes signature names, key establishment, parameter sets or quantum hardware.
Which names make a quantum cryptocurrency claim precise?
A useful claim names the cryptographic operation before naming its algorithm. Distinguish a signature that supports public verification from a key-encapsulation mechanism that establishes shared secret material. Add the parameter set and source version. “Quantum cryptocurrency” alone supplies none of those identifiers; use the linked definitions to turn the phrase into a claim that can be checked.

The lookup table points to controlling publications or upstream source files. It is a terminology aid, not a list of approved cryptocurrencies.
| Term | Meaning in a claim | Primary source |
|---|---|---|
| Criptografia pós-quântica (PQC) | Cryptographic methods designed to resist quantum-computer attacks. | NIST PQC overview |
| Key-encapsulation mechanism (KEM) | Algorithms for establishing a shared secret; identify the surrounding protocol. | FIPS 203 / ML-KEM |
| Assinatura digital | A signed message can be checked with the corresponding verification key. | FIPS 204 / ML-DSA |
| SLH-DSA | The stateless hash-based signature algorithm specified in FIPS 205, based on SPHINCS+. | FIPS 205 |
| SPHINCS+ parameter set | A particular configuration, such as SHAKE-128s; retain the source revision. | Pinned SHAKE-128s header |
| Quantum cryptography | Methods using quantum devices or states; QKD is one example. | NIST quantum cryptography overview |
Use this table: CSV · JSON · Permanent table link. Source context and limits remain in the rows and source list.

Can SPHINCS+ and SLH-DSA be used as interchangeable names?
Record the name the implementation actually claims. FIPS 205 specifies SLH-DSA and states that it is based on SPHINCS+. That relationship does not let a reader infer finalized-standard compatibility from the earlier family name alone. A precise reference pairs the claimed algorithm with its parameter set, source revision and any separately established conformance evidence.

For a source record, retain both the implementation’s literal name and the relevant standard’s name. O pinned SPHINCS+ README is a source for upstream parameter labels, not a certificate for a product.
SYNX claim scope
As reviewed September 21, 2026, the SYNX whitepaper states: “SynX uses SPHINCS+-SHAKE-128s” and “SynX uses Kyber-768”. The signature and key-encapsulation roles are project claims. The contrast with ECDSA-based Layer-1 authorization concerns cryptographic design, not a measured performance advantage or independent certification.
